DAL plants – de-aerated liquor plants

De-aerated water is used for a number of different applications. Typically Dal plants are used in breweries to reduce oxygen pick up in the beer. The Dal water is used for purging pipelines, vessels, process plant, flash pasteurisers etc Of course oxidation of beer means for a shorter life and also off flavours. One project we were involved with did not use dal and proper oxygen management so the beer developed off flavours in under 2 weeks…

Another use for water de-aeration or DAL plants is in the preparation of carbonated soft drinks. Incoming water is routinely de-aerated as this makes carbonation of the product much easier. In this case the de-aeration plant is usually part of the premix carbonator unit which is discussed in another page. There is a need for product de-aeration plants in juice production too to give longer shelf life or products and Enterprise supply these too.

The DAL units come pre-packed on a stainless steel base frame and can include DAL storage tanks with CO2 blanket. This means a smaller DAL plant can be purchased if preferred, operated 24 hours per day to fill the buffer tank for on demand use thus rationalising capital investment.

Incoming water is sprayed via special nozzles into a vessel where a vacuum removes the oxygen from the water. Key features are incoming water temperature which can be reduced by the addition of a heat exchanger with regeneration zone. A second double sized vacuum chamber can be added to reduce the oxygen still further.

So in summary we can supply a number of solutions:-

with single-stage deaerator without initial cooling and CO2 injection we can reach 1 ppm
with double-stage deaerator without initial cooling and CO2 injection we can reach 0,2 ppm
with double stage deaerator AND initial cooling and CO2 injection we can reach <50 ppb
